Studio Tour--Come On IN!

At long last--the first photos of my new studio art space courtesy of my adorable husband. This is a portion of our lower level den area. First we built a wall to separate this space for me and wired it with peeelenty of outlets. Then we picked out and hung these cabinets on top and bottom. Finally I got about a zillion watts of beautiful LIGHT! The studio of my dreams was born.

Did I mention my adorable husband? He takes my need to make art seriously and for that I am ever grateful.

Studio Tour--Storage

This is the back wall behind my desk. Fibers in the tall black case, mailing supplies, buttons and beads below and papers in the purple drawers. A basket of art dolls in process, a book of mail art, one of atc's and my "ART door."

The only thing not shown is a large rolling bakery cart with full-sized trays loaded with rubber stamps just to the left of this photo.

Studio Tour--Workspace

This is the main work area. Whoops. Someone forgot to empty the trash.

I found this great stool at a garage sale. It's old but sturdy as they come and already fully splattered with paint, so it proclaimed itself an art chair. I may alter it at some point, but I love its lived in look. Five bucks. I'm serious.

Studio Tour...Desk

This is my main work area and bulletin board.

Studio Tour...Corner

A final corner of the studio, with sewing machine, embellishments, paper cutter, typewriter, books and encaustic paints.

ART door

This door was rescued from the trash. It's a very small sized wooden door--as if for faeries. I fell in love with it. This is a work in progress. When it's done I'll get proper photos. The spaces in the centers of the carved out areas are rusted metal. I had a metal fabricator in town cut it for me. I had no idea he would have actually rusted metal and planned to rust it myself. But as it turned out, he had a sheet he couldn't use because it was a lovely golden color, so he cut the pieces and gave them to me at no cost.

Harmony Attained

The center of the door contains a brass box with a hinged lid.

Lemon Lime Deco 1

These colors are so refreshing. I'll look back at them fondly in the dead of winter and remember how ridiculously hot it was when I was making these. Thanks again to Heather for the great green and yellow goodies!

Lemon Lime Deco 2

A lemon lime "colour tart" deco for my favorite tart.

Frida 1

A Frida Kahlo deco made using a gel transfer from a photocopy over spanish language text.

Frida 2

This is the back of the Frida Kahlo deco. What an interesting and disturbed woman. Are most artists off balance? What is normal?

Organization at Last

In the process of creating and organizing my new studio art space, I created some pockets and a system to keep track of my various artistic group commitments. My "inbox" shows that I have a lot of art to do!

India Deco

This was the most satisfying thing I accomplished this week. I think I reached farther because the page was for Sharon B's deco and she is an inspiration. She reminds me to use layers and delicious paints and even color.

Leaves

I can be more traditional. See?
Autumn deco page.

Text Collage

A page in a "text collage" deco. This is my favorite topic--WORDS. I love words. Maybe even more than I love paper and fiber. There is nary a wall of my house which doesn't have some text on it.

Embossing

Contrary to general opinion.

I finally got around to trying the embossing copper sheet for this "embossed" deco.

Day of the Dead Stamps

Ang--pick one or chart another course for the carvin' girl. Wheeeee......

BTW, the stamps are all used now, so be sure to ask for your discount, lol.

In celebration of the Day of the Canadian Muerto, some hand-carved stamps.

Danger Kitty

Well, since this was for Odd Decos, I think I've succeeded. I'm trusting that when the time comes to give up on drawing, I'll recognize it. Yikes.

Tulips

It's iffy, but we call it pen and ink and unwrapping those watercolors we bought for ourselves. I realized that there are many ways to express ink and not everyone can make a realistic portrait. So I'll start where I am and see if I can make anything of my scratchings.

Citrus Stamps

Since delightful Heather was so kind to share her embarrassment of lemon lime riches, I thought I'd carve some stamps to commemorate the occasion and as a precursor to creating with her refreshing gifts.

Honeybee Deco

Honestly. This was just begging to be slathered in hot beeswax. A Honeybee deco with the Joker from the set of cards we were using to play Gin Rummy when the raccoons invaded our camp...

ATC Lime/Pink Redux

Another Lime/Pink themed ATC using multiple techniques.

ATC Lime/Pink

The flower is stamped and attached with a brad. Beeswax and encaustic wax coat the collage.

Dots Deco

My free expression deco choice was "dots." I haven't decided whether I have a circle fetish or whether it's just an affinity for their pleasant roundness. These colors spoke to me.

Pen & Ink 2

A second Pen & Ink deco shamelessly based on my favorite painting hanging on my sister's wall in Chitown. Done on watercolor paper and colored with watercolor pencils.

Pen & Ink

A Pen and Ink deco sketched while I was being treated like a Queen at my sister's house. Done on watercolor paper with watercolor pencils over the pen.
