Artists Papers

These should probably be called kitchen sink papers, since they contain multiple art supplies. I'm not sure what the base paper is--it's glossy but it's more like plastic than paper. I bummed it off hubby. Layered with masking tape, tissue and plastic wrap. Next Ranger Posh Impressions inks, followed by alcohol inks. THEN some Shiva paintsticks in metallic colors, a sponging of some gold acrylic paints and for my final number, a confetti of Vietnamese text from a cut up book. I think that's everything!

Fused Glass Pendants

Straight from kindergarten fused glass class--my first week's projects. We glued some glass bits on top of a sheet of clear bullseye 90 coe glass and then teacher fired it at 1400 degrees in the kiln. Everyone else kept theirs as a 2x2 square, but I cut mine into two pieces and then when I got home I soldered them into pendants.

Now we're allegedly making a night light. Some day I might graduate from gluing, but it won't be in this class.

There are no eyes here

In this valley of dying stars.

This is my first ever canvas work. I attached two mini stretched canvases with hinges. Then I dyed them with inks, collaged them and added beeswax and embellishments like mica, metal and an old optical lense.

They sit on the shelf and close like a hinged book.

Handcarved ATC

For the Embellished Circus Handmade ATC swap I couldn't resist carving this stamp for someone who has a thing for giraffes. Shhhhhhh. It's a surprise!

ATC's White and Ivory

These pleased me tremendously. They're so simple but they're filled with the things I love about interactive art. The one on the left has a sandy surface, paper lace, a piece of mica and some lamb soft fiber. The one on the right is coated in micro beads and beeswax, with a circle of string and a row of antique ric rac. Give close attention.

More Marbling Fun

Each sheet of marbled vellum is different! See method below.

Marbling with Shaving Cream

My little experiment in marbling using shaving cream--the lazy man's way. Not as refined as the traditional method, but fun. I'm using Ranger Posh Impressions Inks atop dollar store shaving cream (in cucumber melon scent). Smells yummy. My paper is vellum. It was difficult to work with at first because it rolls right up when exposed to wetness. But after the shaving cream was spatula'd off, I ironed it on both sides to return it to a flat state.

Monochromatica

Goldenrod/mustard monochromatic study.

Playing with Alcohol INks--purples

I've uploaded a number of illustrations of alcohol ink backgrounds. All of these were done on glossy white card stock (kromecote), which is perfect for this medium. I begin by either coating the card in dye ink from an inkpad, or dripping alcohol ink all over it and wiping it around with felt to cover. Then I drop several big splats of the main color. I wait a moment for it to spread, then use the dabber (white felt squares on a handle) to begin pouncing it for a sponged effect. Then I drop splats of my second color in different areas (between the other ones), wait a moment and begin pouncing it also. A third color overlaps here and there, also sponged a bit with felt. Finally, a few drops of blending solution will add even another dimension--by lightening some of the colors already there. Dab that up with the felt and wait a moment for the whole thing to dry. You can turn it upside down on regular cardstock and make a print if it's quite wet. It won't affect the final result at all.

Playing with Alcohol INks--reds, oranges, plums

This is one of my favorite background combinations. The plum and red mixed with oranges is just spectacular. Very rich.

Playing with Alcohol INks--blues

THis is blend of denim, bottle, stream and butterscotch.

Playing with Alcohol INks--plum, rose, brown

This page is for a rose and brown deco. I started with plum and added red on top and some of it turned rosy. Then I threw in a smidge of green and some browns.

Playing with Alcohol INks--browns

I'm still in my "brown is good" phase and kind of went overboard on the browns. I have butterscotch, caramel, latte and ginger. They're all slightly different and mix well with just about every color I've tried.

Playing with Alcohol INks--browns/orange

My range of browns with oranges. I topped them with some Grummer's gold flecks.

Ya-Ya Weekend I

I am lucky enough to have a small group of sister ya-ya's who put up with me for maybe a weekend a year. Soon we're off to the Yankee Peddler Festival in Ohio...a weekend of gorgeous handmade goods and girl talk. I made these car mirror pendants for my ya-ya's after I found their real ya-ya names; Mistress Rising Sun is first. On the back I placed quotes and thoughts about sisterhood. Hope my new soldering iron comes soon cuz this ones being held together by cheap wire!
