Convendipity Postcards

Here's what I did with a bit of the convendipity cloth.

Self-Portrait Doll

I have had a lot of fun with this altered photo of myself, from atc's to journals to dolls. This self-portrait doll was a ton of fun to make. First I collaged my image of myself and scanned it. I enlarged it and printed it on two successive sheets of inkjet compatible fabric and put them together with just a little seam. I ironed this onto some muslin I had painted with metallic purple paint. I cut around the image to create the doll, then cut a piece the same size for the back. The back is stamped with gold paint for interest. It's sewn on the top and stuffed. Then I just had fun embellishing myself as the "bird lady."

Visual Alchemy Fabric Book

Where to begin with this one? Firstly, this is a board book which I covered over with beautiful dyed fabrics. Then I fused some hand painted cloth on each page. I wrote a poem and then illustrated it with pen and ink on paper. Then I scanned it and printed it on inkjet compatible fabric. Finally I stamped the book with permanent inks and paints and shiva paintsticks and tied it with art fibers. Voila!

Bird Song Altered Book

This project was really too ambitious but I finished it anyway! There are about 100 pages in this altered book, formerly titled Book Trails for Baby Feet. It's got a great sewn reinforced binding which has stood up well to my abuse. It's rare to find something vintage with a perfect binding and pages in relatively good condition. I chose bird song because of the eggs and nests I have been drawing and the little birdie collection my friends have been adding to. Lots of great old ephemera in here that was waiting for a use! Here are some highlights.

New Fabric Postcards

Here are some new fabric postcards. These are simply fused fabric with the addition of foils and angelina fibers.
