Paper Collage with Felting

In my extreme needle felting quest, it was time to take on the paper challenge. Here's a little collage I put together today which features paper/fabric leftovers, stitching and needle felted fibers and wool felt. I may end up turning this into a small quilt.

Christmas Love

What can you do with those extra compact disks? Turn them into Christmas ornaments of course! This shows how I started and where I ended up. I hope to create a tutorial for this process so check back.

Mica Cemeteries

This is an experiment that worked beautifully, but I haven't determined the final product yet. Originally I was going to attach them to some cutouts in a fabric book, but I'm not sure yet. The photos were taken in some New Orleans cemeteries I visited (pre-Katrina). It's been awhile since I finished these, so bear with me. I think I copied them on a laser printer in black and white, then burnished them to some packing tape. Then I wetted the back and removed the paper, leaving a transparency. I attached the transparency to a mica chip with gel medium, then I colored them with alcohol inks. I love the effect and plan to finish something with them! Well, here's one anyway. Seemingly I accidentally chucked the other photos in the trash. Rats.

Mmmmmm Rust!

We traveled to Indiana to the Shipshewana Flea Market and all I did was take pictures of garbage cans! This really appeals to me for some reason and I'd love to turn it into a painting or maybe a quilt!

Tag Folder

I met up with the Michigan Altered Book group a couple of months ago and we learned how to make a tag accordion book out of a cheap school folder. This is mine. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it, but it's fun to look at!

The Bean

A trip to Chicago (my birthplace) and the ultra kewl BEAN. The BEAN is a polished stainless steel ...uh bean, what else! These pix are from underneath it--in the crux of the bean :)

Clothing Tag Reuse

Over Thanksgiving weekend my sis gave me some of the fabric tags that have been popping up all over "better" clothing brands. She knew I would love them, and I did! In a snap I dyed them, sewed some bits of fabric on them and did a smidge of needle felting. Now they go inside my moleskine, making it even more juicy. Thanks Sis!

More Moleskine Fever!

Moleskine FEVER!

Having happened upon some moleskines for sale at a bargain bookstore, I tried one. I've read so much about them, but didn't "get it" until I unwrapped my first sketchbook. I went back immediately and bought four more. Get one. They are marvelous. Get the sketchbook. It has thick, creamy pages and the hand sewn binding is AMAZING. These things will take all sorts of abuse! Here's what's going on in mine right now....

Fall Around Here

Daughter and I found a faery path into the woods a few weeks ago and saw these sights.
