So I was reading this book and the artist said to find your "symbol" and mentioned spirals and stars and shapes of all kinds...and it occured to me that I already seem to have a symbol which keeps recurring in my artwork. Ever since I started making ukrainian eggs (pysanky) I've collected egg shaped objects. What can I say? They just appeal to me. I was very pleased at how these came out, as it was all part of my first foray into the world of fluid acrylics. More tricks to come!!!
Oh my God, I just had to comment on how great your art is! I'm totally impressed by your style. If I could create something like that I would never have to work again. Neither should you, people would love the craft you make (not to be confused with kiddy crafts cause you have a style a "craft"). But I just thought I'd say hi and GREAT job!
ReplyDeleteAh, these comments have made my evening. It is one thing to make a world which delights the self, but delighting others is delicious icing! I am honored to be in the company of talented and creative types. We make the world sing! Kelli
ReplyDeleteThese are superb, Kelli!
ReplyDeleteSo...these fluid arcylics are they the ones that look like ink in a jar?
i think the last one of these little ATCs is my absolute favorite. i particularly like the layering of the colors, how it looks watercolory. the touch that really makes it rock is the wat the rust crosshatches the egg. it's all in the details! YUM.
ReplyDeletewhat's up with fluid acrylics, btw? I have never heard about them as anything other than acrylics. are they watercolory feeling acrylics? cos they sure look like that! share! =)
ReplyDeleteI read about them in the book Celebrate Your Creative Self and ordered them from Dick Blick. I see them on the Somerset Studio shop too. They're by Golden and come in little plastic bottles. What makes them different is that they're heavily dying, other than that they're like watercolors. There is a fluid extender you can use to mix with them or water works as well. There are a lot of techniques you can try because they are so liquid and they just stain what they're on. Maybe a little less opaque than watercolors? They blend beautifully and I love the way the fill in the valleys when you have any kind of texture! K
