With glee, I accepted this package from the postman. Lovely Rebecca from Interweave wrapped it in butterflies and sent it to me overnight. This was probably one of the hardest things I've ever done, and it's a joy to see the final product sitting here on my studio table. Now I get to read the dedications to all the people I love and let them know just how much their support has meant to me. May all of your dreams come true, as mine have!
To celebrate this occasion, I'm going to have some giveaways...I have some artwork, some supplies and some extra copies of my favorite magazine Cloth Paper Scissors that I'd like to move out into the creative community. Check back soon.
Weeeeeeeee!
ReplyDeletecongratulations Kelli! I can't wait to get a copy of it!
ReplyDeleteKelli, I have been following your sight for over a year and so seeing that your book is now real, I am so happy for you.
ReplyDeleteBrave accomplishment. Well done!!
Well, as the mother of this genius - you do not know what a thrill it is to know this person who I sat in the floor with as a young child, and taught her with flash cards and read endless books to her, along with teaching her anything that held her interest. She was actually reading at the age of 3, so why wouldn't she be writing a book? She wrote a children's book when in grade school that her teacher begged her to have published - and of course, she did not want to. Maybe that is still a consideration. I am not taking any cudoes for her ability, just telling you of her desire to absorb everything around her. Congratulations my first born daughter, guess who is extremely proud of you? Mom
ReplyDeleteAwww - your mother is so proud:) I love what she wrote.
ReplyDeleteWill you be at Long Beach? I will and hope to see you there.
Congrats!!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations. Can't wait to get a copy! I love your work. Lots of inspirations for us all.
ReplyDeleteCAN YOU BELIEVE THAT "STITCH ALCHEMY" REACHED NUMBER ONE ON AMAZON BOOKS IN HER CATEGORY. ISN'T IT UNREAL - I MEAN REALLY UNREAL!!! An anonymous Mom
ReplyDeleteYour book is wonderful! I read it all in just two days and I want to try everything. Your instructions are nice and clear and as always your examples of the projects are juicy and cheerful. I've been playing with paper cloth for the last 6 months or so but your book really expanded my concept of what I could do with it. Your artwork has a fearlessness to it that really inspires me.

A book review of "Stitch Alchamy" by Kelli Perkins Message List

As many of you know I have a library that will rival most arts and craft book
stores. I am a voracious (did I spell that right?) reader. After all my company
and family commitments I felt as if I had deserved a trip to Borders after work
today, so in I trotted with my 40% off coupon. OK, OK I conned the guy into
letting me use two coupons but he knows me and just smiled. :-) Bless his soul.
I'll give you my impression of "Stitch Alchamy" now and save the other for
later.
I'm convinced that I was an alchemist in a previous life, either that or a crow
because I LOVE, let me repeat that for emphasis, L.O.V.E. shinny things. I had
preordered the book from amazon basted on the cover and title and author, Kelli
Perkins (what's not to love about a girl who's 30 something who puts a purple
stripe in her hair?! You gotta love it!)
I had combined my order with another book to save on postage but the second was
not do for release until Nov so I had time to rething my pruchase and was going
to cancel it becuase Leilani had already thought us to make fabric paper and I
figured why did I need the book. Any who.................. as I was brousing the
new books I found this new release and sat for a solid hour with my mouth wide
open at the fantastic ideas and approaches to art that Kelli has outlined in
this book. Wowza!
As many of you know I rate my book reviews based on viking helmets (1 being
the least desirable and 5 being the most). Well I'm giving this on a 5 star
helmet review. Not because I paid cash money but because it's a great referrance
book with Sooooooo many great ideas. It has everything from soup to nuts when it
comes to fiber art. It's not just about sticking paper and fabric together, it's
chock-a-block full of goodies for all sorts of techniques. The title line of
fabric and paper is deceiving as it much, much more than that.
If you are looking to add a great general mixed media book to your collection
consider this one. It is jam packed with ideas that reach far beyond the paper
and fabric rehelm.
Hugz from your Viking book reviewer,
Nj
PS So it you are convinced that you too were an alchamist in a previous life
read: "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. It's recently gone into reprint and a
great, fun read. :-)
